Straw Rocket Fair Test DLO

For tech we have been learning about rockets. We were so excited to see what we were going to do. At Tamaki College we had Mr Dunn as our teacher to teach us about rockets. It was so interesting learning about rockets. Our first task was to make a straw rocket and we couldn't figure out what is was until we have watched a video. We were so thankful to learn at Tamaki College. The whole class learnt a lot about rockets and were so interested to learn more.

Rocket collage

At tech we learnt a lot and had so much fun. I have made a collage about our learning. This collage is in story order which starts from the start. Having to make rockets also learn about them really made us be interested in rockets. Our teacher from Tamaki College talked to us about what a rocket is and how you can make one. Straight after the learning time we got to make a straw rocket which was really hard because to improve your rocket you would have to change the length or change the fin size. We were so happy and thankful for having to learn at Tamaki College.

How to make a rocket

This is a blog post where it tells you instruction to how to build a Straw Rocket. It will take 6 steps just to build a straw rocket. If you get to make one remember to change some stuff like the length of the straw or the shape and size of the fins. To make thes you would need 2 straws, scissors, sellotape and piece of paper with a template of fins. Have fun and it is really great to play with just remember to be careful.

Today we had athletics day which was really exciting. The year 8 were split into three groups and I was in one of the groups. As a group we cheered each other on to complete the course or obstacle. We only got up to five obstacle which they are rob the nest, sponge relay, long jump, shot put and hool a hoop throw. We came first in each obstacle epset for shot put so we came second in shot put. We had an unbelievable time but it was very unfortunate that we didn't get to finish our other obstacle because of our bad weather. It was really good too see people cheering their team mates on and showing respect to one another.

Hockey

On Thursday we had hockey, after music. What we did was practicing pushing the ball and also trapping as well as hitting. Practicing is really good for us because we get to know how to controls the ball with the stick and how to focus on the ball by not bumping into someone. After that we done pouncing the balls on the stick and count ho many we done and beat the record of your last one. Once we done that we played a game it was when you have to take someones ball out of the square and then you do that over again if there are 4 or 5 people still in then there then we call "SHARK!" shark is when someone is out and then they come back in to the square and get someone out until there is 1 player and thats the winner!!!!!!!
We would like to thank Carly for teaching us new skills.

The Lost Three Girls

It was a beautiful day and a group of friends were getting ready for a night of their lives. The group of friends were Victoria, Cecillia and Ana. They were so excited to go camping. They got all their gears ready and packed for the most exciting night of the evening. Victoria, Cecillia and Ana were looking for some sticks and rocks for their nice burning flames. Once they collected their sticks and rocks they made a huge flaming fire to cook their delicious s'mores. The group of friends were tired as a slow koala climbing a tree up very high, so they rested until morning light.

Next day…..
The girls woke up and saw that there was a huge fire going on in the big trees. They couldn’t believe their eyes, so they panicked in fear. The group were frozen like a statue, their hearts were racing like a racing car and their hands were shaking wild.
Victoria yelled “Help! Help!”
Cecillia and Ana didn’t have their phones or anything on them. The friends were in quick fear. They couldn’t think of any plan, so they were in big disaster. Victoria was stuck on the other side with the girls towards the forest, Suddenly Victoria herd the bushed rattle very loudly.
“Cecillia, Ana!!!!”  murmured Victoria.

A few hours later...
Victoria panicked until she see’s a helicopter seeking for help. But as soon as they could reach out for her to bring her to safety, Victoria was mysteriously shoved by a creature and fell in the huge waves.
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!” Victoria screamed as loud as a lion’s growl. When she then saw Ana and Cecillia were trapped in the forest until suddenly trees falling bit by bit, no one could see or hear them until Ana had an idea to grab sticks and chuck it at the helicopter.

For writing we were writing a recount but it was a very interesting way. I was working with Victoria and Cecillia. To start our writing we had to make a plan but it have t be past tense. When we started our writing we have to sit back to back and we also weren't allowed to talk or look at each other's screens. Our writing We were only allowed to write a sentence each like for example: I would write a sentence then Victoria would write another until it gets to Cecillia. Then you keep it going.

Today we went to the film festival to watch each of the manaiakalani school video's. Each school has to come with video so that could represent there school. Watching the video's made it really interesting because each school came up with different ideas. The best video I really liked were the Tamaki College video called dance through the ages.

Hydration is when you have enough water in your body to keep you hydrated so you won't be dehydration. We should drink water to keep us hydrated and to make our body work properly. Hydration is really important because if you don't drink water you would get dizzy, headache and even feel sleepy.

Collaboration Challenge

L.I: was to follow instruction and making sure we had to read for the meaning and understanding.
For reading we were given a collaboration challenge, Mrs Anderson wasn't allowed to speak to us about what we have to do. Instead of Mrs Anderson talking to us we read the slide's to see what we have to do. One of the task was to read a story and retell it by only writing 25 words. Our second task was to fill in the blank to complete the story. Once we finish all our task we marked it. It went very well.

For reading we always start with reading on a site called readtheory.org. We read for 20 minutes just to warm us up also to increase in our reading. The site gives us a text to read and we have to understand the text before we answer. I always have to think about what the question is asking me to do.  When I answer my question I will always look back at the text just to make sure I have the right answer. Reading on this site really helps me increase in my reading.

Run, Jump And Throw

Today for Kiwi Kids sport we have run, jump and throw. It was our second week of run, jump and throw. We played a little game of octopus just for a warm up. we learnt about long distance sprinting. There are 5 basic skills for running. You start of with looking ahead, light feet, stand straight and tall, using your, swing your arms cheek to cheek, bent elbows, keep your body still and run straight. For high knees it mostly needs leg movement. The difference between hurdle relays and long distant relays is that hurdle relays says on your marks - set - go, and long distant relays says on your mark - then bang!.  The position for long distant is that you stand one metre behind the start line for the beginning, then you use the opposite arm to your leg that you are starting with, and look straight.
